How It Works
This calculator does one thing: it tells you what a percentage of a number is. You give it two values, it gives you the answer. No formulas to remember, no mental math required.
The calculation behind it is simple:
So if you want 15% of 200, the calculator does this: (15 ÷ 100) × 200 = 30. That’s it.
Real Life Examples
Discounts and shopping
A shirt costs 8,000 and there’s a 20% discount. What do you save? Type 20 in the percentage field and 8000 in the number field. Answer: 1,600. That’s your saving. The shirt costs 6,400 after the discount.
Salary and bonuses
Your annual salary is 3,600,000 and your company pays a 10% performance bonus. How much is that? 10% of 3,600,000 = 360,000. Simple.
VAT and taxes
You’re buying something that costs 50,000 before tax. VAT is 7.5% in Nigeria. The tax amount is 7.5% of 50,000 = 3,750. Total price: 53,750.
Grades and test scores
You scored 42 out of 60 on a test and your teacher said each test counts as 30% of your final grade. How much of your final grade did you earn? First check what percentage 42/60 is (use our percentage score calculator for that), then take that % of 30. This calculator handles the second part.
Commission
You’re a sales rep earning 2.5% commission on everything you sell. You closed a 500,000 deal. Your commission: 2.5% of 500,000 = 12,500.

Common Mistakes People Make
Confusing “percent of” with “percent off”
If something is “20% off” a price, the 20% is being removed, not added. This calculator gives you the percentage amount (20% of 5,000 = 1,000). To find the final price after a discount, subtract that result from the original.
Forgetting decimal percentages
You can use decimals here. 7.5%, 2.25%, 0.5% all work fine. Type them exactly as they are.
Using 100 instead of the percentage
A common mistake: typing “100” when you mean “the full amount.” If you want 100% of something, the answer is just the number itself. The calculator handles this correctly.
Percentage vs percentage points
If interest rates go from 5% to 8%, that’s 3 percentage points higher, but it’s actually a 60% increase. This calculator finds the value of a percentage of a number, not the percentage change between two numbers. For that, use our percentage change calculator.
