Fraction to Percentage Converter
Convert any fraction to a percentage, or any percentage to a fraction. Instant result, simplified form included.
How It Works
This converter handles two directions. You can go from a fraction to a percentage, or from a percentage to a fraction. Both are one-step calculations, but this tool also simplifies the fraction and shows you all three forms: fraction, decimal, and percentage together.
Fraction to Percentage
Percentage to Fraction
Step 2: Simplify by dividing both numbers by their GCD
The simplification step uses the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD), which sounds complicated but just means finding the biggest number that divides evenly into both the top and bottom of the fraction. The converter does this automatically.
When People Actually Use This
School and exam questions
This is the most common use. A student gets 17 out of 20 on a test. What’s that as a percentage? Enter 17/20 and get 85% instantly. Or a teacher says attendance was 87.5% and a student wants to know what fraction that is: 7/8.
Cooking and recipes
A recipe calls for 2/3 cup of something. You need to express that as a percentage of a full cup. (2/3) x 100 = 66.67%. Or a recipe calls for 37.5% of a cup and you want the fraction equivalent for measuring: 3/8.
Finance and ownership stakes
A shareholder owns 3/8 of a company. What percentage is that? 37.5%. Or a partner owns 62.5% of a business and wants to know the simplified fraction: 5/8. Both conversions come up in shareholder agreements, wills, and business documents.
Probability and statistics
A probability is given as 1/6 (rolling a specific number on a die). What is that as a percentage? 16.67%. Or a statistical result shows a 40% probability and you need the fraction: 2/5. Simplified fractions are often cleaner to work with than decimal percentages.
Discounts and proportion calculations
A store is offering 1/5 off a product. What percentage discount is that? 20%. Or a 30% discount is mentioned and you want to quickly verify the fraction: 3/10. Both directions come up in shopping and price comparison.
